Heath's Chances!

I saw The Dark Knight yesterday afternoon. While it is stylistic action packed blockbuster bound for technical Oscar nominations, I do think Heath Ledger might be passed over. Don’t get me wrong he gave a great menacing, funny, over the top performance and I would like to see him get a final Oscar nomination. There are just too many obstacles to hurdle over before nominations come out.
Firstly, I don’t think there would be Oscar talk if the actor was still alive.
Plus, it’s only July. By the time the nominations are announced, the male acting categories are usually an over crowded lot.
Lastly, it still is a comic book movie. No matter how well done, these movies just don’t get the big category award nominations.
However, if the film makers & the industry really want to give Heath Ledger that last hurrah, here is a suggestion and Ledger just might sneak in.
Don’t be greedy and keep him in the supporting category. The bloggers have him this category, which I agree will be his best shot. Although he takes up the whole movie the way Hannibal Lector took up The Silence of the Lambs, even when not on screen. The lead category is usually too over crowded, plus Ledger didn't have Anthony Hopkins' longevity or pedigree. Plus, I think the Golden Globes will follow suit and stick him in the supporting category, since they lump all the supporting performances together. Plus, The Dark Knight was just too dark to be considered in the musical/comedy categories.
